A signature icon for downtown St. Petersburg since the late 1800s, St. Pete Pier just underwent some complete revitalization. The new master plan features a park-like design that serves as a destination to maximize the city’s connection to the water, including a series of opportunities for visitors and residents to explore and enjoy the area. Big Span Structures recently completed an open-air tensile canopy structure to protect and shade visitors from the sun and weather elements out on the pier deck. The tensioned membrane structure features approximately 1,140 sqft of solid blue PVC membrane with a white-painted steel supporting frame.
Specific elements for the pier will include but are not limited to upgrades to Spa Beach, multi-level observation platforms, designated areas for cycling/walking/jogging/recreation, floating docks for fishing with a bait shop, a boat house and kayak slips, an educational center with both wet and dry classrooms, a designated space for events, and The Overlook Bar & Grill.
