Oxígeno Human Playground (Centro Comercial Oxígeno)

In the summer of 2018, Big Span Structures successfully installed the Oxígeno Human Playground ETFE canopy in San José, Costa Rica.

The ETFE roof cushion with a 135-foot diameter covers the central place of a spacious shopping area in the San Francisco de Heredia district. This ETFE structure is currently the largest of its kind in the world, and it combines a clear architectural language with detailed connections and a highly optimized security system.

The two-layer cushion construction, with a total of 18,000 square feet, is supported by a network of cables anchored in a continuous steel ring. In case of emergency, (loss of air pressure), security valves have been installed which ensure that any accumulated water is discharged immediately.
