La Isla Cabo Norte

The largest mall in southeast Mexico, the roof of the shopping mall Cabo Norte is covered with approximately 135,000 sqft of translucent ETFE cushions equaling 102 total cushions designed and built by Big Span Structures. A ventilation system controls the constant pressure and provides compensation for strong wind loads in the membrane. A special IR-cut membrane was used to reduce the thermal load in the interior in a significant way. A custom developed aluminium profile framing system with silicone seals was used to assemble the ETFE cushions.
