SUMMERFIELD, FL (June 08, 2020) – Big Span Structures, a leader in concept-to-completion solutions for signature lightweight tensile membrane structures, has completed work on a new tensile membrane façade system for the Oursiman Honda parking garage in Bethesda, Md.
Responsible for the design, engineering, fabrication and installation of the expanded 11,000 square foot PVC membrane system, Big Span’s mesh façade system features an unmistakable digital printed blue colored sky with silhouette birds for a unique aesthetic. The chosen and specified attachment method was a grommet and lacing detail.
“Ourisman Honda is synonymous with quality service throughout Washington D.C. and Maryland,” said Michele Taylor, Business Development Manager, Big Span Structures. “At Big Span, we strive to deliver that quality to all of our customers like Ourisman Honda, and are proud to have successfully outfitted its garage with a façade system that sets it apart from the competition.”
Big Span’s PVC mesh equipped the car dealership’s garage with a tensile fabric façade to provide both protection from the environment and effective ventilation. A fully recyclable and zero-waste industrial product, PVC membrane is fire resistant and meets numerous energy code standards.
Big Span partnered with architectural firm Page Southerland Page, Inc., and Utica Contracting on the three-story garage to complete the project at the end of 2019.
“I was thoroughly impressed with Big Span throughout the entire process,” said James Dougherty, Vice President, Utica Contracting. “Not only was their PVC membrane a sturdy, yet aesthetic product, but everything from the shop drawings to delivery and installation made for a first-class experience.
“With the garage being constructed right next to the Capital Crescent Trail, this project required a great deal of precision,” added Dougherty. “Big Span’s installation crews were very sensitive to the hundreds of pedestrians along the trail, all while conducting an effective installation.”
