Due to the lightweight flexible nature of membrane, a tensile fabric façade can span long distances while reducing the need for a lot of structural steel support framing making it an affordable and innovative solution. Such fabrics like PTFE or PVC membrane are ideal on large structures like stadiums or parking garages using the same technology as tensile fabric overhead roofing canopies, or, with transparent ETFE cushions or a single layer ETFE system. PTFE and PVC membranes are both available in a solid or mesh format. The life expectancy for PVC membranes range anywhere from 10 - 20 years and 30+ years for PTFE-coated fiberglass membrane and ETFE film.
